I’ve frequently said that rain gutters are the unsung hero of the home. They’re often forgotten and neglected, but they serve an important purpose, keeping water away from your siding and foundation. If you’re on the fence about whether to install or replace yours, take this as your sign to do it. And if you want a price real quick, click here.
Here at Mountain Tough Exteriors we offer two core services in regards to gutters. Replacement or installation, and gutter guards. You’re welcome to read more about them below.
Whether you need new gutters installed on your Utah home, or old ones replaced, Mountain Tough Exteriors can handle it.
When I started this business back in 2023, this was our very first service, and one I still love. We always enjoy a straightforward, new construction job. But we also love the challenge of an old remodel or a tall building (like the one we did in the adjacent picture).

We use these to attach the gutter to your home.
There’s a few advantages to reinforced hangers; they’re about twice the strength of standard hangers (93% stronger to be exact. Yes… I measured), they use a stronger screw that won’t break or back out like the nails you see in older gutters, and they’re covered in a rust resistant coating.
In my opinion, these hangers aren’t overkill… they’re necessary with the temperature swings and snow we get in Utah.
Gutters made from rusting steel and leaky 10′ pieces are a thing of the past.
Today we use a machine to roll out aluminum to the exact length needed. Aluminum should be 0.27 or 0.32 gauge which ensures an ideal blend of strength and weight. Aluminum gutters also come in 20+ different colors and include a manufacturer warranty in case your coating cracks or peels.
“My gutters are leaking from all the corners. It’s driving me nuts and now there’s ice all across my porch and driveway in the winter!” Sound familiar? It’s a call I get several times a year and the culprit is almost ALWAYS cheap sealant.
We’ve always avoided the silicone from Home Depot, but we have tried at least 4 of the top rated sealants on the market. My favorite is Geocel 2320. It’s made for gutter specifically, adheres incredibly well to metal, and has a strong but flexible finish that handles temperature changes well.
While nothing’s going to last forever, Geocel 2320 is going to last significantly longer than what most contractors are smearing inside your gutters.

Keep your mind out of the gutter by never needing to… well… clean your gutters. In my opinion, covers are a great option for elderly homeowners worried about climbing on a ladder, homes with high rooflines, or those people that simply don’t have the time or desire to clean them out every year.
While not perfect, gutter guards do a great job keeping the inside of your gutters free from packed leaves and dirt.
We’ve tried or had experience with 5 to 6 covers, and one seems to always outperform the rest.
LeafBlaster Pro, a premium micro-mesh cover that keeps out leaves, pine needles, and shingle grit. The few times we’ve had to take a look underneath these covers all that’s left is a thin layer of dust. It’s all we recommend now, and we hope you’ll take the chance to check it out.
Yes, all of our gutter systems are seamless.
The only seams you’ll find are at 45° and 90° turns, the ends of a section, and in the downspout. These are typically covered with corner pieces and end caps, then sealed for a watertight finish.
This all depends on the size of the install but most projects take 4 to 10 hours.
A good rule of thumb is for every 30′ of gutter or downspout we install, you’re looking at around an hour of work.
We do! Every install comes with a 5 year workmanship guarantee, as well as various manufacturer warranties your welcome to register.
Manufacturer warranties include warranties on the coating that comes with every gutter (Mastic), and a 40 year defect warranty on new gutter guard installs (LeafBlaster Pro).
We typically stock twenty colors of gutter at any one time but can often special order colors on a case by case basis! If you have a specific color in mind, give us a call at (801) 823-0240 and we’ll see if we can match it for you.
